Parents Weekend @ Speedy Willie +Renovation Updates

Will it be "Parents Weekend" at Speedy Willie this week?  To some degree it's almost always at least parent weekend, but this week it could be more so.  We'll see.

Last weekend Speedy Willie was brought to Rockdale, Illinois!  Calling Rockdale a dump would be insulting to dumps.  Rockdale's property values are so low, they were actually improved by the recent mortgage crises.  Rockdale's city planning committee is so dumb, they combined a water park and a  water treatment facility.  If Rockdale had a baseball team, they'd be called the "Cubs." 

As much as I despise Rockdale, and the people, places and things contained within it's borders, that is where much of the work on Speedy Willie has been done recently, and for that I am thankful.  On Saturday, one half of the shelves were completed and installed.  They are perfect, and the result of a hard day's work by my good friend Robert. 

The other half of the shelving installation should be completed at some point in the next week or two.  Installation of the hitch has been delayed, though we should be in good shape with the added storage room inside the vehicle. 

This should also be the first week where the game will be watched from inside Speedy Willie.  Oh, and speaking of that, we'll likely need a new antenna since it looks like the old one broke in half.  So lets talk about that in the next day or so.  I think we should try out an HD antenna and see if that gives us a better picture.

Week 7: Vikings at Bears

There were some rough patches to overcome, certainly, but week 7's festivities will go down as one of the top dozen tailgates of the year.  Included in those patches were a near refusal of entry to the south lot and the unavailability of our favorite parking space next to the handicapped spots.  Had we been able to park where we did last time, we would have had front row seats to the Chicago Bears Drum Crew'z live performance. 

Otherwise, the weather was perfect, the grill was working (in the same way dandruff shampoo "works"), and the nearby port-o-lets offered a steady stream (pun intended,) of fans a close-up look at Speedy Willie.  The new playlist was a moderate hit and featured some new songs, some old songs, and yet more tracks from the Top Gun soundtrack. 

 

It was a bit sillier of a tailgate than we've had lately, with a Karate Kid Crane Kick contest breaking out.  Pictures of that are still being developed.  In fact, many of the pictures are not available to us jut so check back later in the week for those. 

The Bears won.  Our section was Philadelphia Eagles fans-free, which was good.  We're still waiting for our first celebrity appearance, which did not come this last week even though the namesake was featured in some kind of half-time show.  I've just about convinced myself that we can use this carpeting in the bus and not completely ruin it.   

2 weeks until Detroit on 11/02/08.  As it stands right now, that is shaping up to be the biggest tailgate of the year!  Also, it's Uncle Jerry's birthday!

Lets Get It Done

October 10th, 2008 To Do List:

1.  Begin anti-Bratwurst propaganda campaign.  The dark history of the German linked meat is unknown by far too many.  For one, The American Bratwurst Capital is Sheboygan, Wisconsin, square in the heart of Packer country.  Second, the German language origin of Bratwurst is bra, German for brother, and twurst, German for dizzy.  Clearly this is a second class food product, manufactured for second class citizens. 

With a concise, targeted campaign, I believe we can reduce the market share for bratwurst while increasing the share for the Official Meat of Speedy Willie, Italian Sausage. 

2.  Begin contest for Anti-Bratwurst Propaganda Campaign Slogan.  Click this link to send your suggestions in to SpeedyWillie.org.  The winners will be featured in the 30 second commercial that will be filmed at some point in the future.  The 60 second spot will feature only professional commercial talent.  Best of luck to you!

3.  Correct Flagging Economy.  Whats the deal here?  Everyone knows the major indexes will not decrease in value if everyone simply follows this rule:  "Buy low, sell high."  Economics 101, right?  If the share you are looking to sell is currently at a price lower than you bought it, don't sell it.  Once the going rate is higher than the one you bought it at, feel free to sell. 

4.  Apologize for breaking the Disco Ball.  I'm sorry I broke the disco ball.  (That should have been done in person.  [I'm sorry for not doing that in person.])

5.  Schedule Celebrity's to attend future festivities (5b. Confirm correct spelling of celebrity's.).  If you are a celebrity, click this link to schedule yourself an appearance with Speedy Willie.  There is no better way to increse your Q rating than to spend some quality time in and/or around Speedy Willie.  Reality Show stars must have a co-signer.  Top priority:  Cadillac Dave. 

Delayed Week 4 Recap, Bears Keep Winning

Apologies from the SpeedyWillie.org editorial staff for the delay in recapping the September 28th events leading up to and following the Chicago Bears contest v. the Philadelphia Eagles.

Over the course of the last ten days, the physical servers holding SpeedyWillie.org (and all related data, pictures, etc.) were being held in escrow while a decision was pending by the United States Library of Congress.  Many thanks to the US Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives for nominating our humble website for inclusion.  Thank you Acting Director Medefind for your efforts, unfortunately since SpeedyWillie.org does not fit neatly into the Dewey Decimal System, the odds were never in our favor.  (Actually, the delay is because I've been busy watching White Sox baseball...) 

At the same time, The Chicago Bears and Speedy Willie have not stopped winning. The season's first night game featured an outstanding gathering in the south lot, one of the largest of the season.  There was anywhere from 35 (on the more accurate side) up to 200 (on the ridiculously over exaggerated side,) tailgaters mingling around Speedy Willie.  Guests included visitors from Philadelphia and Abu Dhabi!

With the 3:00 game on TV, the Speedy Willie playlist rocking the brand new exterior speakers, the grill fired up and the perpetually open cooler, there was plenty of excitement to keep all of your senses busy.  Speaking of the speakers, I'm removing Party Like A Rockstar from the playlist as it was extremely overplayed last week.  

In fact, I've decided to make some major renovations.  ABBA'S Dancing Queen is really only shocking the first time, right?  So expect an updated playlist for the next game.  More techno music, for sure. 

Anyways, the Bears played well enough to lose, but the Eagles didn't try hard enough to take home the victory.  Rex would have had the bears up by at least 17 points at the end of the game.  (Did you know that we have to be Rex fans because somehow Mrs. Grossman looked at Speedy Willie and thought it was pretty great?  Yeah, Ask Chris about it sometime.  Or, maybe Chris can give us the story in the comments below?) 

During the game there were a group of Eagles fans that didn't understand that Soldier Field promotes a family atmosphere, and were decidedly unfriendly.  In fact, there were at least 3 instances where cooler heads prevailed when there could have very possibly been a fist fight!  Wouldn't that have been great?  A bunch of dirtbags from out of town manage to start a fight with a group of peace loving young men, and we would be the ones to have the season tickets revoked?  Could have happened, but didn't.  Thank Gods the Bears won.  (Did you know that SpeedyWillie.org welcomes all religions?  Hence the plural Gods.)

Lets wrap this up... Bears then headed East to Detroit, won.  Next week in Atlanta, likely another victory.  Keep it up, huh?

Update:  Purchase of orange and blue vinyl has been made for the seats.  Seat covers may be ready for next home game.  Shelving installation yet to be scheduled.  Hitch installation yet to be scheduled.  Hitch basket yet to be purchased.  Bus renovation completion date: TBD.
